The Koreatown Youth Community Center (KYCC) has recently begun the Youth Drug Abuse Prevention Program (YDAPP).
YDAPP is a 10-month leadership program aimed at raising awareness for drug and alcohol abuse. Students do this by making Public Service Announcements and documentaries. Participants also develop character through “Life Workshops” led by coordinator Jeff Yoo, a former drug user who co-founded Inspire Apparel in 2004.
“Every time I meet with my group, I want to guide them the right way so that they don’t have to make the foolish mistakes that I’ve made,” said Yoo in a recent interview.
This session, YDAPP made five Public Service Announcements, attended a KYCC press conference at the Koreatown Organizations Association building, held a fundraiser at Shakey’s, and attended a leadership camp. The sixteen members also forged close friendships.
As this year’s session comes to an end, current members look forward to meeting and working with newly recruited members.
