On Saturday, April 7, the Young Leaders of Orange County (YLOC) assisted and helped set up the Spring Eggstravaganza at Boisseranc Park in the city of Buena Park. YLOC volunteers had to come by 6:30 a.m., to set up decorations and signs in the morning. Countless parents and children participated in the event, with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., fun activities at 10 a.m., and an Easter egg hunt at 12 p.m.
“This was really a great volunteer activity, especially with the amount of help that our volunteers provided,” said president of YLOC, sophomore Stephanie Youn of Sonora High. “I know I had fun as well, just coming out and seeing all these kids having fun gave me memories of when I was that young.” The pancake breakfast only cost $4 per person, with sausages, pancakes, and a choice of either milk or orange juice being served. People that paid were allowed to get unlimited amounts of food, for no additional fee.
The fun activities that followed the pancake breakfast included the moon bounce, salt coloring with chalk, and even a stage performance with young kids singing and dancing. The Easter bunny also came out at around 10 a.m., posing with children for pictures and entertaining them.
“That was all really fun,” said fifth-grader Fernando Tinajero of Carl E. Gilbert Elementary School. “I didn’t watch the stage show, but I did the salt coloring with chalk and went in the moon bounce too, which were both really fun.”
Finally, after a couple hours of setting up, the Easter egg hunt was ready to begin. There were five different areas, with candy spread out over each area. Children were free to roam the area they chose, and look for candy in the grass. Many young kids left the egg hunt happy and satisfied, evident by the smiles across their faces. YLOC volunteers then started cleaning up the entire area where the Easter Eggstravaganza took place, putting away decorations as well as everything else. Many participants left with laughs and smiles on their faces, a satisfying end to a long day.
