The long awaited third season of AMC’s critically acclaimed series, “The Walking Dead”, returns to the small screen on Sunday, Oct. 14. The season, comprised of 16 episodes, will debut the first eight this fall and the next eight in February 2013. Set in the aftermath of a post-apocalyptic world where zombies thrive and dominate, a small band of survivors seek sanctuary in a desolate and destitute world.
Adapted from the comic series of the same name, “The Walking Dead” loosely followed the written canon and included characters exclusive to the TV show. Fans were ecstatic when the producers announced the addition of the mysterious, katana-wielding Michonne and the maniacal antagonist known as the Governor, who play crucial roles within the comics.
“I’m particularly excited for the season premiere,” viewer Andrew Morrison said, “I follow the comic books and the fact that the show is leaning more towards the comic story line makes everything much more exciting.”
Stereotypical zombie films and shows primarily focus on overly dramatic battle scenes between man and the undead. “The Walking Dead,” however, depicts the more of the ongoing psychological struggles of the survivors as they try to balance morality and survival. The characters encounter hardships from not only the zombies, but from fellow members being killed and other human survivors who are predatory and formidable.
“This show is rather female friendly. I normally have a hard time watching zombie movies because they’re disgusting, but because ‘The Walking Dead’ is intriguing. It’s not just about killing everything in sight.” said Jenny Choi. “I like how the characters are constantly using their wits and morals to survive overcome their obstacles, as opposed to the shoot em’ up type of movies.
With generally high ratings and a massively expanding fan base, “The Walking Dead” returns for a suspenseful third season on Oct. 14. Brand new episodes will premiere every Sunday at 9 p.m.
