As life gets busier it becomes increasingly difficult to make appointments and work on projects. Fortunately, companies such as Google have created applications to help people instantly share and edit their work live with peers.
Google Docs, used by JSR in its editorial process, allows multiple users to work on the same document at the same time while making changes. Other applications such as Skype offer video chatting so users can see their friends while communicating.
“Using the internet to communicate was very convenient because I didn’t have to physically go to anyone’s house,” said Fairfax High School student Brandon Martinez, who added, “I live far away [from the people I collaborate with].”
William Kwon, who worked with Martinez on a school project, told JSR, “The Internet helped everyone plan for what we were going to do before we met. It was a very powerful and convenient tool.”
However, Martinez said that the process does have some drawbacks.
“Although communicating online means that I don’t have to go far away to work on a project, physically meeting is a much more effective and efficient way to work,” Martinez told JSR.
