Recently, Korean culture has become more popular, and it is not rare to hear so many people talking about Korean pop music or dramas. Lately, a romantic-comedy movie called “Love On-Air/ Wonderful Radio” has grasped an attention of a wide public audience in Korea. The movie has crossed the oceans and has grabbed the attention of even a wider public all over the world. Directed by Chil-In Kwon, “Love On-Air” is a film that depicts a warm, sincere love that arises between a radio disc jockey and her producer.
In the film, DJ Gina Shin is a former Korean pop idol singer who was the leader of the famous girl group, Purple. However, after the popular girl group suddenly disbanded, DJ Gina poured her heart into her own radio show called “Wonderful Radio.” However, Shin’s radio show has been criticized for getting low ratings, and even worse, its original producer has left to give birth to a child.
A new producer named Jae-Ik comes to fill in and try to raise the show’s ratings. However, Gina and this unfriendly, cold-hearted producer frequently argue and clash in their opinions, and being hot-tempered, Gina does not give in to Jae-Hyuk. While arguing and fighting against the new producer, Gina offers an idea to create a new feature to invite a listener of her radio show to the studio to tell other listeners about their personal story. Jae-Hyuk is satisfied with her idea for the first time, and Wonderful Radio raises its rating. Jae-Hyuk and Gina begin to accept each other and become closer as they learn more about each other’s personal stories. Moreover, Gina begins to write songs again and wishes to return to the stage as a singer.
However, just as Gina and Jae-Hyuk begin to understand each other more and feel more closer to each other, their relationship is tested when eventually Gina faces accusations of plagiarism, which Jae-Hyuk believes. Throughout the unforeseen conflicts that arise, Gina matures as she realizes her true friendship and Jae-Hyuk’s sincerity.
The theme of this movie is widely used in many romantic movies. Hence, some viewers could feel bored by the overused romantic elements. But Director Kwon transforms the trite theme of romantic love into a comedic, realistic love that depicts sincerity of two lovers. Being a PG-13 rated movie, Love On-Air is a perfect film for both teenagers and adults who are looking for a heart-warming movie.
Hi, Ashley. I have a few suggestions for your article. It took a little while for me to actually get to the “meat” of the article and realize what it was about. Perhaps a better, more creative hook/intro would have been good or to introduce the lead faster. Also, it was awkward how your introduction was about “kpop and dramas” not Korean movies. I was confused about if Love On-Air was a movie or a drama and I had to reread it so I think being clear about that is important.
Also, try not to give a summary of the whole drama. Try not to write a synopsis, but a critique, so give more opinion rather than stating the plot (“this happened, then this, then that”). I do think telling how long the movie is would have been good.
Including quotes from watchers who enjoy it OR who don’t enjoy it would have been great.
I also think this is a typo in the article but I’m not sure. Who is Jae-Ik, or did you actually mean Jae-Hyuk?
Sounds like a movie I can watch when summer break starts!
