Cerritos High School has begun its annual tournament for Club Volleyball. This is an event in which all the clubs at CHS gather and compete in the vigorous sport of volleyball. Everyday, at lunch, certain clubs play against other clubs. The winning club gets club points, which help the clubs get re-chartered by the end of the year. For this reason, this competition is very competitive amongst the clubs; however, this event is also for enjoyment and fun. Fellow club members can come out to cheer for their teams.
On Monday, November 1st, Club Volleyball had its first games. On Tuesday, Korean Club went against Mu Alpha Theta, a math club, and the game stirred a lot of anxiety amongst the viewers. Korean Club’s Treasurer, Hanna Choi, states, “At first, we thought that we would win easily. However, once we got halfway, the game started to get very tense.” This game ended in a victory for the Korean Club players. Choi, who was at the game to support the players, could not suppress her excitement in watching her team win, “When Korean Club won 2-1, not only the players, but also the officers and members were all very happy and excited. I was very proud of our club’s first win!”
A lot of people came out to support their teams. Every time their team scored, the supporters cheered. Even though some teams lost, their audience was still very supportive and encouraging. Of course, the winning teams were very proud. “I’m very grateful to all the players who came out to play for our team and showed their Korean pride. I’m also very grateful for the people who came out to support our team. Their cheers definitely encouraged our team to win,” says Choi, as she expresses her gratitude for all the players and supporters.
Although it is just starting off, Club Volleyball seems to be kicking it off with a successful start. “Club Volleyball is the perfect event for the club members to bond,” praises Choi, who observed the bond between her club members begin to deepen. Many hopes are arising for the success of Club Volleyball as well as victory for Korean Club. “I have high hopes for our team to win this year. However, I would be satisfied even if we don’t win, so long as our players and members all had fun being a part of this event! Let’s show some Korean pride!”
