Last Thursday, on the evening of December 1st, at 5:00 PM, staff members of Korea University visited the Howard Johnson Hotel’s conference room to introduce the university’s application process to recruit students residing in America. KU takes pride in the fact that it is one of the few prestigious Korean universities that has a history of over 100 years. KU is responsible for making many of Korea’s leaders, including Korea’s current president, Myung-bak Lee, greatly impacting the growth and spread of Korea.
On this evening, KU’s Dean of Admissions, Professor Jung Hwan Choi, led the attending parents through the school’s admissions process. Around 200 parents attended this meeting, showing that many parents also took a deep interest in schools in Korea. Many topics were covered during the evening, such as the applicant’s qualifications and the application process.
To apply to KU for 2013, seniors must fall in one of the 3 groups: students with 3 or more years of education in a foreign country, students with 9 or more years of education in a foreign country, and students with a full 12 years of education in a foreign country. Students must have an application form found on the homepage along with a copy of their school transcripts for each school year from elementary to high school, enrollment verification, a high school diploma, and other documents listed on the application homepage (http://oku.korea.ac.kr) and submit forms anytime from July 2nd-4th of 2012, meaning that seniors will be applying after their graduation. The results for the enrollment to KU are known between August and September. Also, 30% of all the classes offered at KU are taught in English, so students can learn effectively.
Also on this evening, KU’s president, Dr. Byoung Chul Kim, talked about why KU was showing in interest in students residing in America. “To match with the global era of this generation, KU wants to open doors for Korean-American students as well as foreign students to join their school in order to be a school that makes global leaders,” he explained. One parent revealed that parents were interested in KU because Korea is one of the countries that have greatly impacted the world. Students who learn the American culture and English language can attend a prestigious Korean university and learn Korea’s culture which will ultimately build our students to become global leaders. With these potential leaders, KU hopes to achieve its dreams of becoming one of the top 100 universities globally as a university as a whole.
