On Saturday, January 25th, Gahr High School of the ABC Unified School District held a conference inviting fellow MUNers from other schools. The conference started off with fellow delegates arriving at 8 AM. The advanced committees started their first session at 8:30 AM while the novice committees started their sessions at 9 AM. The students were escorted to their separate classrooms where they went in depth debating world issues in their own committees. After the end of the first sessions, all the students got together to share discussions and mingle with other delegates during lunch, which lasted from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. After lunch, the students went back into their separate classrooms as the second sessions for both the advanced committees and the novice committees were starting. The second sessions lasted from 12:30 PM to 3:15 PM. The students were then given a short 15 minute break until 3:30 PM.
Finally, the closing ceremonies were taking place. The closing ceremonies lasted from 3:30 PM to 4 PM. All the schools did well and all the delegates had worked hard to prepare for this conference. However, in the end, Huntington Beach High School came on top, winning the Best Delegation Award. Huntington Beach High School is known for being exceptionally strong MUN team and at this conference, the delegates did not fail to live up to their name.
Another one of the attending schools was the prestigious Whitney High School. Whitney High School is known all around for being a very strong academic school for intelligent students and, at this conference, Whitney received the Diplomacy Award for being the most well-mannered and diplomatic school attending the conference.
Whitney also had successes in receiving awards in their different committees. It did very well in one of the committees, the Nuclear Nonproliferation and Iran Committee. In each committee the awards given out were as follows: one Best Delegate Award, two Outstanding Awards, and two Commendation Awards. Whitney proudly swiped one of each award in this committee.
Many of the Whitney delegates were pleased with their school’s status during the conference. One of the delegates who represented Colombia in the successful Nuclear Nonproliferation and Iran Committee, Samuel Shin, stated that he was proud to represent Whitney that day, “Although I did not receive an award, I was very proud of the our school’s other delegates. I was especially happy for the delegates who received awards because the awards represent that their hard work really paid off. I want to congratulate all the delegates who attended today.”
