During the month of May, elections were held for Cerritos High School’s ASB cabinet. Equipped with posters, signs, and pickets, for two weeks nominees campaigned in order to win the favor of voters.
During the lunch break on May 31st 2011, the 2011-2012 ASB cabinet was announced in the quad. Last year’s outgoing cabinet introduced the incoming members. Each nominee waited anxiously with the crowd for their name to be called, which would signify their acceptance into the ASB cabinet. When they heard their name, the newly elected male cabinet members were ceremoniously inducted by going through a gauntlet of friendly punches by the former board. The girls, on the other hand, were cheered and given hugs. Afterwards, they were all then awarded a golden crown, flowers, and a sash with their position on it.
Next year’s sophomore class officers became President Jessica Kim, Vice-president Anastasia Guanio, and Treasurer Anne Chung. The junior class officers became President Emily Navales, Vice-President Ellie Zwirn, and Treasurer Tony Kim. The senior class officers became President Nina McDonnell, Vice-President Steve Nam, and Treasurer Angela Chung.
Junior Klarissa Son was elected next year’s ASB President with sophomore Tyler Graham as ASB Secretary and sophomore Danny Jeon as ASB Treasurer. Some other ASB officers were Commissioner of Publicity Sheona de Silva, Commissioner of Activities Adriana Dugquem, and Commissioner of Academics Peter Yoon.
The new board members were overjoyed and Ellie Zwrin exemplified this by stating, “Even though I was just elected, I am super excited for junior year, and I can’t wait to get to know every single student of [20]13!!!”
“The main priority of junior year class officers is to create the best prom for our juniors and seniors,” Tony Kim continued, “I just finished sorting out the prom committee applications, but I feel really excited just to be a part of this. However, I know that this will be a hard process, but I expect our prom committee and fellow class officers to be able to pull through and make the best prom ever!”
Interviews for other appointed postions were held on the second week of June. Some available positions included Commissioner of Activities, Commissioner of Clubs, Commissioner of Community Relations, and Commissioner of Technology.
