On April 1, the Los Angeles Junior Philharmonic Orchestra, Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic Orchestra, Legal Voices, and the Big Band of Barristers will be performing in a joint concert at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
All four groups will be conducted by Gary S. Greene.
“This will be a very exciting concert, because everything will be of such a large scale. It will blow your mind away,” Maestro Greene said. The concert will feature various musical pieces including “The Planets” by Holst, “Symphony No. 5” by Tchaikovsky, “America the Beautiful” arranged by Carmen Dragon, “Finlandia” by Sibelius, and a medley of the musical “The Music Man.” The concert will also feature various celebrities such as Tony award winner and actor, Hal Linden, and “Lost in Space” star June Lockhart. KABC radio’s Doug McIntyre will also be emceeing the program.
The Junior Philharmonic Orchestra was founded by Ernst Katz, Maestro Greene’s late uncle, in 1937 as a youth orchestra, although today it has members ranging from ages 12 to 70. The Lawyers Philharmonic, Legal Voices, and Big Band of Barristers, all founded by Maestro Greene, are groups of lawyers, judges, law students, and legal staff who all share a passion for music. All four groups are widely recognized for their high-quality music and performances.
“This is definitely a concert that I can’t wait to see,” said Kimberly Makado, a high school senior who will be attending the event. Many people are very excited for this upcoming epic concert that the four groups have been preparing for since the beginning of the year. Because this concert will not only feature instrumental music, but also vocal music, many people expect a great blend of sound that will echo throughout the entire auditorium.
“I have never played in this kind of concert myself, but one thing I know for sure is, it will be nothing like you have ever heard before,” said Talia Nassi, a Junior Philharmonic Orchestra member. Above all, the concert has been receiving even more attention with the fact that all the proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children, a chain of hospitals throughout the nation that aim to treat and care for children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special healthcare needs.
A wonderful opportunity to listen to some breathtaking music, and to also contribute to a great cause, the so-called Concert Extravaganza is bound to be a must-see event of major proportions.
