In Korea, capsules with human flesh have become a significant issue. It was reported that Korean customs and police were going to undertake an investigation when distribution of smuggled capsules with human flesh was caught. It was discovered that some Korean- Chinese circulated them.
According to ‘Anti-smuggling crackdowns status of capsules with human flesh,’ in 2010, one Korean-Chinese female in Daejeon got 6 bottles of capsules from her Chinese sister. She got it through international package and was exposed last July. Also, another Korean-Chinese in Gwangju carried 3000 capsules(30 bags) last February but was exposed last July.
Korean-Chinese who smuggled capsules with human flesh stated during the police investigation that they including their family ate all of them. However, police are expanding investigation due to high possibilities of circulation in the market considering the amount of carried human flesh capsules.
According to investigation of Korea Customs Service , the total number of capsules with human flesh caught in travelers’ effects has been 17,451 including 11,430 of carried effects and 6,021 of international post since last August.
Currently, there are some capsules that do not require any approval by the Korea Food and Drug Administration. Surprisingly 11,443 capsules were human flesh capsules that account for 40% of a gross of regulated capsules. Capsules with human flesh are made of stillborn children. The misleading rumors that they cure various kinds of diseases including cancers have been spreading. As a result, there has been a large distribution of appalling capsules in Korea.
The main region of smuggling was found to be Northeast China, including Yangji (6216 pieces), Kirin (4358 pieces), Cheongdo (708 pieces).
As this situation strikes fear of a white slave market into people, unsure rumors are rapidly spreading through SNS. There are even rumors of ‘Day of Human flesh’ claimed to be on Oct. 10 in China.
The feeling of uneasiness all through Korea has built up by diffusing evidence of international human flesh trade in China and news about it. Korea police and customs are doing their utmost to make a thorough investigation.
