These days in Korea there are many audition programs on the television. As K-Pop gets increasingly popular, more and more people are trying to become a K-Pop star. Even though some are just normal people living ordinary lives, their lives can be changed totally by these programs.
What makes people so excited? First, the people who experience the audition get excited by challenging others with their skills and learning from the real stars. Second, people who watch the program get vicarious pleasure and make them get into the program. Also dramatic stories that participants have can make people excited too.
When the audition finishes, some winners will be chosen by some agency. They will start practicing and get trained to become a star. But, can they all become a star? Korea is a big K-Pop market and there are already too many stars. And behind them, lots of singers and dancers are starving, eager to get popularity. They sing because they can’t do other things. They give all their effort to sing. They dance because that is what they really like and did throughout their entire life. Audition programs are making them jobless.
Do audition program winners become stars? It depends. Because an entertainer should fulfill people’s expectations, if they don’t, they will become jobless. An example is one audition program’s top 10 member, who left and joined another audition program because she wanted a better agency that can make her a star. However, she dropped out because there were too many other talented people- and as a result, became jobless.
Audition programs offer unreliable dreams. Very few of them really make people’s dreams come true- in fact, many people get frustrated, fall down or get depressed. Some of them even become jobless. These facts point us to a crucial question- are audition programs really necessary for our world?
