Choi Kyung-Ju placed 3rd place on the final day of the PGA Golf Tour FedEx Playoffs in Atlanta, Georgia on September 25, 2011, with even par on the fourth round and 7 under par combined. By 1 strike, Choi Kyung-Ju failed to enter the extended stage, and had to finish the championships with 3rd place, but his performance on this competition exemplified his new golden age.
On the final day, Choi Kyung-Ju hit 7 under par by the 3rd round and caught 4 birdies, but he also got 1 double bogey and 2 bogeys, thus, by 1 strike apart, failed to join with Bill Haas and Hunter Mayhan in the extended stage. If Choi Kyung-Ju was able to hit a birdie on the 18th hole, he was able to join the extended stage and make his winning possible, but his T-shots and chip shots were too short so he had to be satisfied with a par safe. Although he was unable to win the FedEx Championships plus The Tour final playoffs, Choi Kyung-Ju’s showed strong perseverance and he showed a performance worthy enough to gain the title of “The 2nd Golden Age.”
On the other hand, Bill Haas and Hunter Mayhan joined the extended stage without Choi Kyung-Ju and Haas was able to mark his win on the 3rd hole. Bill Haas placed 1st on The Tour Playoffs and jumped from rank 25 to rank 1 in the FedEx Ranking, earning an outrageous bonus of 10 million dollars. Choi Kyung-Ju placed 11th on the FedEx Ranking with fellow player Yang Yong-Eun placing 27th.
The 2011 FedEx playoffs, a series of four golf tournaments that will determine the season champion on the PGA tour, began on August 25 and ended on September 25 with The Tour Championships marking the final tournament.
