Westfield High School Students Walk to Support Pediatric Cancer Research
On Saturday, April 30, 2016 students of Westfield High School under the leadership of the Walk for Kids with Cancer Club participated in an annual fundraising walk. Hundreds of students, families, and cancer survivors gathered in Central Park to take part in the annual fight against pediatric cancer. An organization such as Kids Walk for Cancer is a way for the community to join together and raise money as well as awareness in a fun event. These events have fundraised a great amount of money and will continue to hold such events in order to help fund the treatment of pediatric cancer.

Study Leave: For the Better?
In South Korea, one of the most stressful times for a high school is when they are preparing for their daunting annual exams. For seniors, this is a make or break test and with three years of curriculum cumulatively being tested in one test, students are on high alert. In order to relieve some of the stresses for the seniors, the schools in South Korean foreign school has implemented a study leave in which students that are studying for these exams do not have to come to school and worry about other school work. This way they can solely focus on their exam studying. However, is it really for the better? Do the students really take advantage of this time to focus on their exams and study? Or do they find themselves distracted and doing other things?
Nobody Knows the 1988 Olympics
The 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea was a landmark event and was considered a great success. However, there is a darker story behind such an epic event. About a decade before the Olympics, the South Korean leadership rounded up “vagrants” from the streets and held them captive in a group home in order to keep them off the streets. These “vagrants” were held in inhumane ways and it was hidden behind the veil of “cleaning the streets”. These events are still considered unjustified.

South Korean alternative rap group Epik High has been introduced at Coachella. Coachella is a very popular event with an exclusive set list, so Epik High’s invitation to the major American Music Festival is a groundbreaking event. Epik High’s performance is evidence that the Korean music scene is growing beyond its borders and music itself is transcendent of language.

Students were outraged by the event and took to social media to ensure that justice is brought to the perpetrators. The instigator of the fight has been arrested but events like this reminds us that violence is never the answer.

However, the government has a very difficult time implemented stricter gun laws in the US because of the continuing debate between those who believe a gun is a dangerous weapon and those who believe they have the right to own a gun.
