With most restaurants closed due to quarantine, many people are relying on pick up or delivery to order food. A lot of people miss the feeling of in store dining – I sure do. For my favorite restaurant, Kura Revolving Sushi, pick up doesn’t do it justice. Kura Revolving Sushi’s main appeal is not only their deliciously inexpensive sushi, but their fun and unique restaurant concept.
The first time I went to Kura Revolving Sushi was before quarantine had started; my friend and I decided to go to a new restaurant that opened up in our favorite mall. I always was intrigued because the inside of the restaurant was not like an average one, instead having conveyor belts all throughout the store. Since me and my friend love sushi, we decided to go eat there. When we first arrived we had to wait nearly 40 minutes because it was so popular.
I really like how this restaurant is self-serve and how you don’t have to ask your waiter everytime you want to try something. Another reason I like this restaurant is because it allows you to try a lot of different kinds of dishes, including appetizers and desserts, because each serving is small and inexpensive.
Something really amusing and unique about Kura Revolving Sushi is that you can win prizes by eating sushi! If you eat 15 plates of sushi, you can play their gashapon machine, a vending machine that dispenses random toys in little capsules. When I visited the restaurant had a One Punch Man-themed gashapon where you could win lanyards, acrylic keychains, and sticky notes. They rotate which machine they have, so it’s fun to visit multiple times!
Kura Revolving sushi is inspired by Kaiten-zushi, also known as conveyor belt sushi. Kaiten-zushi is a type of sushi restaurant that involves using a long conveyor belt that rotates different dishes to your table. Conveyor belt sushi was created by Yoshiaka Shiraishi, who created this new way of serving sushi because he was short on staff in his small restaurant. Although Kura Revolving Sushi is closed due to COVID-19, I highly recommend everyone go to a Kaiten-zushi restaurant at least once for an entertaining dining experience with friends or family. There are three locations around Los Angeles, in Glendale, Lil Tokyo, and in Koreatown, and it‘s super fun to go with your friends and family. Once coronavirus is over, the first thing I’m going to do is go to this restaurant with my friends.
