Throughout the years, the NBA playoffs have given basketball fans a sense of camaraderie and enjoyment, as well as competitiveness and despair. With these NBA teams desperately fighting for the coveted championship ring, players try their best to give it their all. This year in particular, the NBA playoffs have given fans a sight to watch with a series of close games and overtimes, as well as unexpected twists and turns.
So far, the playoffs this year have been entertaining, competitive, and thrilling, with injuries of key players shifting the course of games. For example, Rajon Rondo, the point guard of the Chicago Bulls, shifted the momentum of the series with his injury on his right hand. During the regular season, Rondo seemed to be a somewhat insignificant player, being outshined by star players Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade. However, after he got injured during the playoffs, the Chicago Bulls began to lose game after game, proving his significance to the team.
However, the highlight of the playoffs comes from Isaiah Thomas, the point guard of the Boston Celtics. From the start of the series, he was faced with emotional despair when his sister passed away from a car accident. Then, he was injured with his front tooth knocked out of his mouth, causing him to have a significant six hour surgery. Despite all of these emotional and physical struggles, he was able to have a historic game, scoring a total of 53 points on their overtime win versus their rivals, the Washington Wizards. When asked about his performance during the post-game interview, he states how “Everything I do is for her.”
With the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors once again dominating the basketball scene, it is likely that they are both going to square off in the NBA Finals. Nonetheless, the playoffs this year has been entertaining with interesting matchups and intense fervor.
