On Saturday, Nov. 16, the Korea Forensics League hosted its 8th annual Korea Public Speaking Championship at Korea International School (KIS).
The Korea Public Speaking Championship is a highly competitive and unique event in which High School students across Korea are granted the opportunity to compete in speaking, acting and debating in three different formats. The four events are prepared speeches, drama, debate and impromptu speaking.
This year, students from eight Korean schools were invited to participate in the tournament and compete for a chance to be qualified for the World Individuals Debating and Public Speaking Championships to be held in Lithuania in April 2014.
The six highest-achieving students at this year’s Korea Public Speaking Championship were invited to represent Korea at the world tournament. The Korea Public Speaking Champion was Jae Hyun Park (Korea International School), and the other five qualifiers who will be heading to Lithuania are Jeong Eun Oh (Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages), Donjae Lee (Bugil Academy), Ye Lin Hahn (Daewon Foreign Language High School), JongHyup Baek (Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies), and Sun Jae Jasmine Lee (Korea International School).
In addition, some students were recognized for performing exceptionally well in specific events. For the After-Dinner Speech event, JongHyup Baek (Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies) was awarded first place, while for Oratory, Interpretative Reading and Debate, there were very close ties for first place among competitors.
