On September 14th, the Love and Share 5K&10K Marathon happened despite a hot temperature of 87 degrees. Starting at 8 AM, in front of Wiltern Theater, many participants walked, ran, or even wheeled on their wheelchairs, to fight for were able to go home with a handful of prizes such as onions, hong sam (ginseng), lotions, t-shirts, and much more.
To participate, runners could sign up in advance or sign up on the day of. Each participant paid $20, $15 if senior and free if age under 10. Participants were able to choose between 5K and 10K, with 5K runners taking off a little later than 10K runners.
This year was especially more meaningful since Korea Daily Square was officially established on Wilshire and Normandy Street, which was part of the course. This year is also the 45th year anniversary of Korea Daily. At the water booth, participants were able to see the banner reading the official establishment of Korea Daily Square.
Group participants included Rainbow Preschool, with the kids’ families and even graduates and their families, Happy Runners Organization, with about 180 members who are active around Cerritos, and KART, a Korean organization of runners. Coach Peter Kim, a member of KART, also helped warm-ups before the running started with about 60 other members of the organization.
