From July 28-29, the 6th Annual South Central Scholars (SCS) Summer Conference took place at the University of Southern California campus.
This conference focuses on college success, academic excellence and career exploration and preparation.
This weekend was an informative opportunity for high school, college, and graduate students as there were various workshops, seminars, and activities that brought them together with industry partners and professionals.
From a career panel for people interested in law to a time management seminar, the students were able to select the sessions that they were most interested in.
The last event, known as the college break out session, provided a venue for high school students to meet different college students from a range of schools including the Ivy League schools, private liberal arts colleges, and public schools.
Franklin Lee, a South Central Scholar volunteer and a rising sophomore at Harvard University, was one of many college students who talked with high school students getting ready to apply for college.
“I wish I had known about this program before my senior year. I think it is such a great opportunity for motivated high school students to hear different college backgrounds and get ready for college applications,” Lee said.
Apart from giving the opportunity to high school students to learn more about the colleges that they are interested in and allowing college students to share their experiences with the younger classmen, the SCS conference also offered a great social gathering of various scholars from different states.
“I’m glad I got to meet my friends here since I haven’t seen them in so long because we go to different colleges,” Lee said.
