September 15th 2011 – The Cerritos Regional Chamber of Commerce held its annual Taste of the Region and Business Expo, an event whose purpose was to showcase the area’s best “cuisine, culture, and commerce.” Volunteers from the Gateway Red Cross and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) assisted by handing out flyers, passing out water, directing attendees, and collecting entrance fees.
At this expo, local businesses, such as Rose Hills, Norm Reeves Honda/Cerritos Ford, CitiHousing, and Press-Telegram, gathered to inform people about their business and bring awareness to their brand. Whereas, over 25 restaurants, including Lucille’s Bar-B-Que, Cafe Bistro, Wingstop, and Shave It, provided sample of their foods in hopes of promoting their cuisine and attracting potential customers.
All of these stands were available for a humble five dollars, and volunteer Daniel Chung exclaimed, “This was a volunteer event that actually repaid me more than I worked. [The food] was way cheaper and delicious than food from a typical restaurant, and I learned so much more about Cerritos.”
There were also performers, such as Pianist Fran Newman and the Capriccio Duo, who came to brighten up the evening and hone their skills. Moreover, two raffle drawings that enabled participants to win prizes, such as a Lucille’s gift card and a wine basket, helped to produce a more exciting event.
“I gained a lot of experience from volunteering at this successful event where people gathered and became accustomed with the business [and taste] of the region,” concluded volunteer Jasmine Chang.
