“The Mission of the Han-Schneider International Children’s Foundation is to provide basic needs for the orphans around the world.” (Chairmen Sam Han, founder of HSICF)
Once news of this foundation reached Troy High School, students decided to play a part in this movement. The majority of these students were, surprisingly, freshman. Giving up their spare time, students gathered and discussed ways for them to become more involved with the foundation. They soon discovered an easy way to help Mr. Han. The Senate Bill S.416, the “North Korean Refugee Adoption Act of 2011”, allows American families to adopt North Korean refugee children. Many of these orphans die of starvation; some are even murdered by the North Korean government.
Troy students supported this bill by going to their peers, teachers, and other people to sign the petition.
“The reason why I want to join HSICF is because I believe in its cause. As an Asian, I am able to have a connection to the orphans. I want to be able to help them. While most American children are living privileged lives, these North Korean refugees are dying of starvation and cold. HSICF gives me a chance to help those children. By getting people to sign this petition, I’m bringing awareness to America. “(Maggie Wang, a freshman at Troy High School)
These motivated students are going of their ways to spread the mission of HSICF. While most high school students will be able to enjoy their summer playing with their friends, these freshmen will devote their time holding fundraisers for the orphans of the world.
