While millions of Americans are stuck at home under a “quarantine”, teenagers are consumed by a new trend called Dalgona Coffee. Based off of Greek frappes, it is a light, fluffy coffee that is then poured over milk. The #dalgonacoffee has over 58 million views on Tik Tok, and it’s safe to say that it’s blown up on the internet.
But does its popularity match the taste? I spent a weekend trying to find out.
The recipe is fairly simple, you mix a tablespoon of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water together. Then, you mix until the coffee turns into stiff peaks, like whipped cream. This part looks easy, but it takes around 20 minutes (your arms will feel like falling off). You pour as much milk as you would like into a cup, then pour the coffee on top.
Personally, I enjoyed it. It tastes like an espresso shot in milk. It’s not sweet, but it’s not too bitter. I wanted a second opinion, so I asked my family members, who also said that they enjoyed the taste and texture. I also asked two of my friends to try the coffee. Both agreed that the texture of the foam was amazing but said that it was too bitter for their liking.
Overall, I believe that Dalgona Coffee is worth the effort. If you have nothing to do at home, consider trying it for yourself!
