Mostly everyone has dreamt of having superpowers at least once in their lifetime. One of the characters that inspires young children and teenagers these days is Spiderman. Students who have never seen Spiderman have started to enjoy and cherish Spiderman through the new Spiderman movie that was first released on December 14, 2018.
Like any teenager, Miles Morales attends a private high school. Suddenly, while he is with his uncle in the subway, doing graffiti art, he is bitten by a radioactive spider. This forces him to develop powers that mysteriously change him into another Spiderman. Soon, he meets Peter Parker, the original Spiderman and finds out that he is not the only one that possesses these characteristics. He realizes that there are a few other people that are connected to him with their special, impressive talents.
With the help of the other Spiderman characters, Miles tries to learn how to use his powers, but it doesn’t come easily. Soon enough, he realizes that he just needs to believe in himself, and is able to learn how to use his powers. With his powers and the help of the others, he battles the evil Kingpin, a hulking madman who can open portals to other universes and pull different versions of Spider-Man into our world.
Based on the story Spider-Man by Stan Lee, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse takes a great twist on the original story. It introduces many more characters such as Spider-Woman, Spider-Ham, and Spider-Man Noir. The character Spider-Ham has appeared in American comic books, but in this movie, he particularly delivered lots of laughter by representing an anthropomorphic funny animal parody of Spider-Man. The characters really played a big part of this movie, giving entertainment to the viewers. The new characters introduced in the movie were eye catching and the way they work together by the end of the movie teach a lesson about teamwork.
This movie also caught the eye of many people with its amazing animation and story line. While this story centers around the main character Miles Morales, he wouldn’t have been as effective in the movie without the animation that surrounds him. Every scene is planned out extremely well, with animation never seen before. There are bright, popping colors that enhance the scenes as well. Regarding the story line, viewers were very happy to see that there was lots of humor, other than the violence that some people do not enjoy.
Out of all the Spiderman movies, this was the first to be rated as PG, and many people, especially parents that had seen this movie with their children had separate opinions about this element. Many parents thought that this movie was completely suitable and appropriate for children 10 and under. A parent who watched this movie with his children, Joo Sang Park said, “This was a movie that was totally appropriate for the rating of PG. My kids really enjoyed the movie and was not affected by the violence in it at all.”
Other parents thought that this movie should have been rated PG-13 because of its violence. Many parents claimed that there was too much action, violence, the use of topics like death, pistols, and even blood despite the PG rating.
Overall, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has been given praise of performing a great take on the original Spiderman story. It has brought great excitement and happiness to many children and even adults.
