Recently in the Hollywood movie industry, R-rated movies are very famous and leading the new trend of the movie industry. Starting from last year’s movie “Deadpool”, which was one of the first hero movies that premiered as an R-rated film. Coming in as one of the top 10 movies in the box office last year, 20th Century Fox had huge success with “Deadpool” as it also found a new type of audience in the whole movie industry. With that, more and more people are now flooding to view R-rated films when originally, they did not reach a lot of audiences.
According to a survey from Fandango, 71% of adults agree that more superhero movies should be produced as R-rated films. Also, 86% of adults responded that they want more violent superhero movies. Following these opinions, this year especially, the Hollywood movie industry had a lot of R-rated films. For example, 20th Century Fox produced “Logan” which was highly anticipated in the X-men franchise and gave it an R-rating.
This trend seems to be growing even more as horror movies such as “It”, rated R, broke box office records, “Blade Runner 2049” and Jackie Chan’s “Foreigner” also rated R, has been big in the box office. Also, more upcoming movies such as “Snowman” and “Jigsaw” and George Clooney’s “Suburbicon” are movies that will come out this year as R-rated films. As it is well known, the Hollywood movie industry transforms fast and follow new movie trends fast as well.
We can only wait and anticipate what will be the next new movie trend in Hollywood that audiences will flock to go see.
