Out of many holidays such as Christmas, St. Patrick’s day, and Valentine’s Day, Halloween is coming up on October 31 with many special events opening up. Halloween goes back to around 2,000 years ago when a pre-Christian Celtic festival was held every year to celebrate the ending of the Harvest season. In more recent times, this holiday is now a fun day where people get to dress up in costumes and go trick-or-treating.
Halloween, a largely celebrated holiday, is also being celebrated at popular places such as Six Flags Magic Mountain and Universal Studios. There are horror mazes, music, scary rides, and more. Also on this day, many schools allow their students to dress in costumes for fun. Susan Chamling, a sophomore from Academy of the Canyons talked about her experience saying “I really love seeing all of the creative costumes students at my school wear on Halloween. It’s cool to see some people dress up as funny characters we see from TV while others wear more traditional, creepy costumes.” She added that last year she “dressed up as Minnie Mouse which was a lot of fun because some of [her] friends dressed up as the other characters, like Mickey, so [they] were all matching!”
I
n celebration of Halloween, there are also a lot of TV specials and Halloween specific movies that are aired for people’s viewing pleasure. Susan Chamling stated that “Watching all the halloween movies that they air on TV is great. I’m not a huge fan of horror films, but they’re so entertaining… especially during Halloween.”
Susan Chamling also commented that “the night of Halloween is also fun because on the night of Halloween, the atmosphere is mysterious and creepier than usual. Sometimes I feel like I’m too old for trick or treating but now that I’m older, it is more about the experience than the candy.”
A common tradition is to decorate your house with creepy halloween decorations. A few weeks before Halloween, many people decorate their houses to get into the Halloween spirit. Pumpkins are currently being sold as decoration and for carving purposes. Halloween stores open up this time of the year annually and sell all sorts of costumes, decorations, and candy. Additionally, many horror movies were released.
Since Halloween is coming up soon, families should decorate and get into the Halloween spirit!
