Made out of durable steel, the 23 feet tower, which is composed with rings, donates 1000 cubic meter of clean air. It uses a copper coil that forms an electromagnetic field, attracting smog particles. The metal panels then suck up harmful air particles, releasing new purified air. The fine dust is then stored inside the tower. It is said that the smog tower removes 75% of the two main harmful pollutants and replaces them with clean air. The tower relies on wind energy and a small amount of electricity, making it environmentally friendly.
With the smog tower in Beijing, studies have been shown that it cleaned over 30 million cubic meter of air. Daan Roosegaarde explains how the tower can be a step towards a smog free future. With the idea of getting rid of pollution and reducing wastes, Daan Roosegaarde created a diamond ring which consists of compressed small smog particles inside of it, symbolizing the “smog-free” future.
Recently, a video has been posted showing how the smog eating tower works. So far, China has been using the smog free tower to improve their air quality.
This year, they have decided to further their invention by creating a smog-free bicycle which takes in the polluted air and filters it. Every pedal the person makes generates clean air. With the advancing technology, the options to control pollution gets bigger.
Daan Roosegaarde is hoping to extend his future dreams of a smog free city. To enhance the smog free tower into an environmental friendly tower, Daan is planning to install solar panels and reduce the usage of electricity.
