Earlier this month, as this year’s NBA season came to a close, the Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers obtaining the NBA Title, avenging themselves against their long-time rival.
After blowing a 3-1 Finals lead to Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers previously, the Golden State Warriors proved to be dominant over the Cleveland Cavaliers twice over the last 3 years. With the acquired Kevin Durant in the free agent market, the champions cruised their way through their postseason, finishing with 16 wins and 1 loss.
Patrick Zhang, a Diamond Bar resident and a Lebron James fan, anticipated for the underdogs to pull through with a championship win once again. However, once seeing the offensive explosion from the seven-foot beast, he explained how the opposing organization was a “completely different team” than before.
For Golden State, the road to the crown was relatively easy. They started off by sweeping the Portland Trailblazers, obliterating the dynamic duo of Damian Lillard and CJ Mccollum. The next victim was Utal, with role players Gordon Hayward and Rudy Gobert. Incredibly, the Warriors also swept San Antonio, who lost their star player Leonard in one of their previous series games. Concluding, they had only suffered one loss to their rivals, ending their 2017 season on their own home floor.
Dogmatic about his opinions, Phillip Huynh, a Walnut native, spoke of how he was “satisfied that the champs got redemption against the team who crushed their hopes of going back-to-back.” Regarding Cleveland, he said how they were a “respectable team [who] put up an extraordinary fight against arguably the best group of basketball players in the league’s history.”
In the end, many around the world are already anticipating the next season, wondering whether James will come back to his superstar state and revive the Cavs into making another trip to the Finals. However, for the best basketball team in 2017, many are foreshadowing a dynasty to come, featuring the star power of Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.
