At the outset of the new year, many high school students begin to stress about their SATs and college applications, and 2017 may be their last chance to improve their grades and scores. As such, students have adopted new goals for the new year.
Studying constantly has been the one thing that high school students have been doing since time immemorial, hoping that it will bring joy to their lives. For instance, Emily Chew, a sophomore at Crescenta Valley High School, told JSR that her goal was “to continue my record of getting all A’s. I will accomplish this by studying and reviewing really hard and keeping up with my homework. Also, I would like to become even stronger in my faith and continue to follow the Lord’s path for me. The last one is for the year and the first one is for the school semester.”
Wanting to help out kids in the future, Emily isn’t the only one who wants to study hard. Rachel Shin, a junior from Crescenta Valley, said, “My goal is to study hard but to also manage my time well so I could hang out with my friend. I’m so busy that I only get to hang out with my friend at school.” As a junior in high school, it’s the busiest time of the year. Although she does spend time with her friend, high school students like Rachel don’t have much time to invest in their friends after school.
Living in a society where studying is the priority makes students’ goals based on studying. Even though one might not be able to accomplish one’s goal, the prominent thing is that one has a motivation and has the will to accomplish to his or her goal.
