The sport of basketball has also improved at Diamond Bar. Especially with their freshman basketball season going undefeated in their fall season, the class of 2020 is looking forward to having a spectacular record this upcoming winter season.
Noah Del Campo, a star player on the freshman team, explained how the team had a “depth of great talent,” leading to more productive efficiency over the course of a long season. He typically pointed out how well the team could shoot the long-ball, racking up points in a hurry. Mark Wu, a teammate of Del Campo, spoke a bit differently of the team. Wu explained how the team could play defense, “holding teams from only scoring 26-30 points throughout the course of a 40 minute game.” He especially mentioned that it was easy to play among his other teammates.
However, there are many rivals that can disrupt the harmonious run that Diamond Bar has had so far. Walnut High School, known for having a superb basketball team, dominated in basketball games last year, defeating the Brahmas in every match up. With young freshmen such as Jacob Cortez leading the team, they can be a sure threat to the chemistry of Diamond Bar.
Not only can Walnut High School ruin the flow of the Brahmas, but other schools can definitely ruin the fantasy. Glendora High School, known for their height and ability to rebound and score the ball, is certainly capable of having a wonderful season this year. Having outplayed the freshman Diamond Bar athletes last year, there is a possibility that Glendora can pull it off for the second time in a row.
Even with all of these top tier teams squaring off, Diamond Bar coaches Mike and Dan Vargas show no fear into going up against the elite. Dan explains how as long his “Brahmas stick to the offense and run the correct plays under the circumstances of the game, he trusts that his players will pull through with a win.” Mike, a strict defensive coach, mentions how the team just needs to” settle down after scoring a possession on offense. ” He also states that it “wouldn’t matter if the opposition was bigger, taller, faster, more athletic, experienced than Diamond Bar.” He believes as long as the Brahmas step up on defense and play smart, they wouldn’t have to worry about a miserable season.
Regardless the fierce opponents in their division, the Diamond Bar high school freshmen have potential to achieve flawlessness.
