According to the Huffington Post, tech companies Silent Circle and Geeksphone have piqued interest with their recent unveiling of a new Android phone, the Blackphone, that aims to ensure that emails, phone calls, text messages, pictures, and other private information cannot seen by anyone but the phone’s user.
Phil Zimmerman, the co-founder of the Blackphone, stated in their launch video, “What we’re trying to do is to make a smartphone… to protect a user”s privacy.”
The phone uses detailed encryptions and stores all information on a virtual private network, so it will be even difficult for skilled hackers to gain access.
Nathan Lee, a local student with an interest in technology, said, “I’m very glad that a new phone like this is being released. I’m always worried that someone is secretly seeing all my pictures, text messages, and emails.”
A 21-year-old tech blogger, who asked to remain anonymous due to privacy concerns, stated, “This phone is a very innovative idea that will ensure the safety of its users. Hopefully, this will lead major companies like Apple and Samsung to create more secure tech devices.”
