On Oct. 18, Whitney High School (WHS) hosted its annual Autumn Harvest. Students came together to participate in this fall-themed event in celebration of the new season and changing weather. The Autumn Harvest is held every year in order to increase school spirit and unity.
Whitney’s Associated Student Body (ASB) decorated the school cafeteria in a western theme, with pumpkins and hand-painted autumn leaves. The students dressed up like cowboys, with plaid shirts and denim jackets.
Each grade sold food in colors of red, orange and brown, which represent the warm colors of autumn trees. Freshmen sold popcorn, sophomores sold thai tea, juniors sold pumpkin pie, and seniors sold spaghetti. Hot dogs, which sold out in less than 30 minutes, were the most popular food items sold by ASB.
Some students ate, while others participated in hacky sack and themed photo stands. Students also had the opportunity to throw whipped cream at their favorite, or not so favorite, teachers. The funds raised from the activity went to helping Whitney’s multimedia arts program.
The event ended with square dancing taught by Gazel Flowers, a physical education teacher. The students gathered together to learn new dance moves and also meet new people through the exchange of dance partners.
“Although… I’ve gone to the Autumn Harvest a couple years now, the experience never gets old and I have fun every time! I love the way it brings our whole school together. I feel really unified and I hope we continue to do it annually,” said WHS senior Sara Kim.
