Male teachers of La Cañada High School are participating in No Shave November for the second year in a row.
No Shave November is campaign to raise cancer awareness. According to its official website, “the goal of No Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free.”
On Friday, Nov. 1, participating male teachers including the school administrators and counselors shaved off their beards and mustaches in the morning before classes began. After they started fresh and clean on the first day, it became interesting for students and others to look at their facial changes over time. The Spartan, LCHS school newspaper, started taking photos of five participating teachers faces every day to make a video that shows a gradual change. No Shave November is unlike a regular awareness campaigns in that the process is fun and easy to follow.
Last year, students had the choice of voting for the best “No Shave November” winner. The students would donate some money and vote by putting the donation in designated participating teachers’ boxes that each of them had. The box with the most donations won.
Hannah Lee, a student at LCHS commented, “It is really interesting how even teachers participate to raise awareness of cancer. I think more students should participate for a good cause.”
History teacher Brent Beaty commented during class, “My wife hates it when my beard gets all scrubby, oh well!”
