We have created a 7-question survey about your editors. We’d love it if you all took a couple of minutes to complete the survey. You do it the same way that you do your worksheets:
JSR Survey #1: How is your editor?

Speaking of the worksheets, a few students have told us that they “haven’t received” their worksheets despite the fact that we’ve sent them. So what’s going on here? Well, we can’t diagnose every problem individually, but we have have an idea. Most email clients have a “Spam” folder, and some also have an “All Mail” folder. These are automatically sorted, and sometimes the sorting makes mistakes. We expect that many students who haven’t received files have actually received them in one of these folders.
Make it a habit to regularly inspect your Spam and All Mail folders. You’ll be surprised at the important stuff that accidentally gets routed there from time to time.
If you’ve been reading the paper, you may have started to notice some things that the articles we choose have in common. This Monday’s articles, for example, all featured thoughtful quotes that were actually obtained by the student reporters.
So, you should go out and get interviews! But remember, you shouldn’t just ask anybody about anything. Be strategic. This Monday’s page, for example, featured an article about an airline merger that included an interview with a high school economics teacher — someone who is an expert on the potential business ramifications of such a move.
For a sports story, you might want to talk to someone who plays that sport. For a science story, you could write an inquisitive email to a professor at a local university. For a review of a new science fiction movie, you could talk to the president of your school’s Sci-Fi society.
Finally, you should all know that the new cool thing is to “like” JSR on Facebook. Really! If you like JSR on Facebook, you’re guaranteed not only more friends but more overall happiness.
