In May of last year, during lunch time, a messy food fight took place at Horizon High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. During this incident, a student had supposedly assaulted a teacher and is now facing a felony charge for it.
During that time of year, the seniors of Horizon High had decided to start a food fight as a senior prank. However, what was supposed to just be a fun surprise ended up in chaos as things started to get out of hand. It was during this time that a teacher claimed that he was tackled by Conner Floyd-Elsesser, a freshman at that time.
However, Conner Floyd-Elsesser insisted that he was innocent and that instead he was the one that was attacked by the teacher.
“I was in defense mode, I was in fetal position, I was shocked…I’m on my back getting hit in my left side right in the gut,” he explained. Because of this incident, Connor Floyd-Elsesser is now a sophomore this year at a different school.
It was later revealed that the teen refused to accept any fault and accept a diversion program, which could have led to the dropping of charges. Because of this, the county prosecutor is asserting the charge, which could lead to a trial. When questioned about this, the teen’s attorney, Jason Lamm, answered, “Connor didn’t do anything wrong. He didn’t assault that teacher—in fact it’s the opposite. So there was no reason to admit responsibility and therefore he wasn’t going to participate in diversion.”
When the school was contacted in regards to this incident, it released a statement last week stating, “The country’s attorney’s office acted appropriately to investigate and hold any individuals accountable for their actions.”
The school claims that the senior prank was indeed “a dangerous, physical assault that put the safety of hundreds of students and staff members at risk.”
However, there is still not enough information on this issue. There was a video a fellow student had taken with a phone, but the video only showed Connor Floyd-Elsesser on the ground and the teachers around him; the video doesn’t clarify what happened before the incident.
